Thinking of taking a romantic getaway, maybe staying in a great bed and breakfast in Savannah? This time, instead of visiting the usual sights, try something out of the ordinary to create a unique trip you’ll never forget. Whenever you leave a vacation spot you will always take away the culture, and what better way to get involved in local culture than with food and drink?
Romantic Activity 1: Taking a Cooking Class
Spend some real quality time together learning about the one thing every person loves: food! There is no better place than the City of Hospitality to take in some great southern cooking and earn a few souvenir recipes which will last a lifetime.
Kitchens on the Square
Local chefs and caterers share their best tips with you through the Southern Lunch and Learn series of classes. While you won’t be able to show off your skills here, you will be able to see firsthand how to prepare some amazing dishes, which are served to you at the end of the class. Have fun, kick back, and relax during these small, eight-person classes. You can easily register for classes online while planning your trip, or call a day in advance.
Mansion on Forsyth Park: 700 Kitchen Cooking School
Those couples looking for a more hands-on experience can head over to this state-of-the-art facility
located in the South Historic District of Savannah. What you lack in experience going in will be gained in knowledge heading out. The 700 Kitchen Cooking School boasts new tastes, flavors, and techniques for everyone and offers a wide variety of cooking classes not limited to Southern traditions. A class schedule is available online, while reservations are available by phone.
Romantic Activity 2: Wine Tasting
Nothing goes better with a cooking class than a little wine tasting to set the mood for the evening. While you could just sip a glass of wine at your favorite new restaurant in Savannah, you may prefer to take home a bit of the romance in bottle form, which will last you all year.
Savannah Oaks Winery
Reservation-only wine and cheese tastings are available year-round at this winery’s lush grounds sprawling over 11,000 acres! You and your mate will be delighted to sample an expansive variety of reds and whites suitable for every palette and can even take a tour of the winery, if desired. The winery is open every day of the week – call for reservations.
Savannah Wine Cellar
While the Savannah Wine Cellar may not actually bottle their own wine, they do offer hundreds of varieties, both local and imported, for tasting and to buy. Be sure to check out their schedule of events, ranging from wine tasting classes to various local social events celebrated over hand poured wine.
This unique old-world style cellar offers wine tastings all day, with hours every day of the week but Sunday. Reservations are not required for the daily tastings, but you may need to call to reserve a seat for a few of their more exclusive events.
With choices available like these, you are sure to find something romantic to do every day of the week in Savannah. What do you think your lover would appreciate most?
